In the traditional Forró pé-de-serra, typically the instruments zabumba (drums), sanfona (accordion), and the triangle dominante the music. At the end of the 90s, however, dancers and musicians in São Paulo developed the forró universitário. This was a "revival" of the traditional Forró, which was then also accompanied by other instruments like the violin or contrabass. Another Forró style from the 90s is Forró eletrônico.
The "Forró" actually includes five different rhythms:
Forró itself, Baião, Xaxado, the faster Arrasta-pé, and the soft, more shuffle-feel Xote (from 'Scottish').
